Crabs
(PRIVATE RECEPTION: THURS MAY 31st @ 5P) Trent Nahas was born in Oakland. And he is back! He received a BS degree in Applied Art and Design from CalPoly – SLO. His various careers (along the north west coast) include– graphic designer, portrait artist, special education teacher, car salesman, and now is a construction supervisor for a family owned company. His choice of media ranges from paintings of acrylic and oil on canvas; sculptures of wire, duct tape, and found objects; drawings using sharpee and white out on the insides of cereal boxes. Currently, his focus is shells of sorts – from juxtaposing mixed appendages onto crabs and other crustaceans to deconstructing human shells (mannequins) and exposing what’s inside. Heidi Wells
(PRIVATE RECEPTION: THURS May 17th @ 5P)
Heidi is a psychotherapist, writer and self-taught artist originally from Brooklyn, New York currently residing in Oakland. As a child growing up the in Antelope Valley, creative influences from her parents shaped her passion for painting and drawing throughout her life. She was heavily influenced by abstract and contemporary artists, impressionist work and pop culture art. Heidi has been a freelance artist since 1999 focusing on the connection between art and psychological states of being, and the fragility of the human heart portrayed in her "Broken" series (2005-2007). Her latest series uses bold color and dramatic contrasts of light and dark to express the deeper meaning beyond our “soul’s surface” or the color of our skin. As a woman of multi-racial origin her works have also been influenced by the uniqueness and complexity of how natural skin color is perceived and the meanings we attach to it both positive and negative. Through vivid portraits we see the uniqueness of all people beyond the boundaries of skin color which highlight the beauty of humanity, as a collective landscape of light and dark, and our deeper meaning beyond the Soul's Surface. www.heidiwellsart.com

Human Shell
(PRIVATE RECEPTION: THURS May 31st @ 5P)
In the past, I spent a lot of time training myself to feel more. Now I do the opposite. I avoid feeling or thinking too much or trying to rationalize what is worth creating. Whatever comes out, comes out. When I remove myself from the equation, it feels like I don’t have to do anything. My art means something different to me depending on when you ask. Some days I see meaning, profound and deep, spilling out of my work; other days all I see are materials in a steaming heap, meaningless garbage. I look to show something deeper than the surface but at times it feels as if that is all I have. One thing is certain: every piece of my art is a self-portrait. So long as I’m not held by the shackles of reason, I enjoy myself. Unfortunately, reason is necessary for promoting myself as an artist. This makes me uncomfortable, but that is where some of my best work comes from. Website: http://trentnahas.net/

Photo Graphics
(PRIVATE RECEPTION: THURS May 10th @ 5P)
I graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art (now The University of the Arts) with a BFA in graphic design and a minor in painting. I worked as a designer and art director at a number of advertising agencies, publications and publishing companies on both the East and West coast before founding Fifth Street Design, a full-service design agency, in Berkeley in 1985. Since 2008 I’ve been devoting the bulk of my time and design skill toward creating original art prints. The basis of my artwork is always one of my original photographic images though I am never content to reproduce exactly what my camera has captured. Using a variety of scanning and image editing techniques, and a color palette that ranges from subtle to psychedelic, I try to create unique images that you won’t see anywhere else. I call the prints I create “Photo-Graphics” because they are part photography and part graphic design. All my prints are Giclée prints, produced with archival inks on archival papers or canvas on a state-of-the-art Epson 9900 printer. I hope you enjoy looking at the images I’m displaying here as much as I have enjoyed creating them. Website: http://creativeshake.com/profile.html?MyUrl=photographicartist

Predator & Prey
Cameron Thompson Born and raised in California, Cameron Thompson found his love for art at an early age. Inspired by graffiti and murals in his neighborhoods of Southern California, he was introduced to a wide variety of local artists who helped spark his love for art. In the late 90’s he migrated to the Bay Area where he joined the legendary AS crew, founded by members Sundance and Bay Area all-star Crayone. Through graffiti art he was able to travel Europe and North America, collaborating with YMI and FOES crews. While living in Ireland for two years, he was introduced to the art of hand sign painting for local restaurants and businesses. Arriving back in the States and migrating to Texas, he opened F6 Gallery with friends Kevin Thorton and Jeremy Gabriel, which would later showcase hundreds of artists. While living in Texas he started working as an art teacher in the public schools and juvenile hall. Finding a love for teaching and working with the community, he moved back to Oakland where he has been continuously showing art and working in the public school system. Jerry Chang Artist Statement: I create images based upon personal struggles, and experiences. My style has a strong influence from graffiti, drawing, printmaking, and many genres of music. I use minimal color, combined with detailed line work to express my message. I currently reside in San Francisco, California.
